Environmentally Advanced Classrooms


Challenge

When a university developed a building for innovative, sustainable design with the goal of creating the most environmentally advanced classroom and teaching lab building ever constructed in the Southeast, aggregation of environmental data was identified as a crucial component to monitor and manage the project’s unique use cases. Reporting automation would play a vital role, allowing stakeholders to focus on further innovation rather than spreadsheets and minutiae.

Solution

An existing entroCIM implementation within several campus buildings meant that university stakeholders, including department heads, facility managers and research staff as well as students, already knew about entroCIM’s integration and analytics capabilities.

Supplementing typical integrations like HVAC and lighting, connections to the building’s solar array, water systems, and an array of utility submeters, entroCIM gathered all the data required to simplify reporting requirements while also making data available to researchers and students. Classrooms within the building now provide instruction based on data from the building.

Automated entroCIM reporting helped the building achieve Living Building Challenge Certification. Technologies on-site supply more than 200% of the building’s annual energy needs, nearly doubling Living Building Challenge requirements.

The university also took advantage of entroCIM’s deployment flexibility. The project was initially deployed within entroCIM’s cloud-hosted environment before seamlessly transitioning to an on-premises instance.
