CASE STUDY

University Microgrid

Challenge

In collaboration with the power company, a university sought to deploy a 1.4-megawatt microgrid as both a power source and a living laboratory to better understand the resiliency, sustainability and cost of microgrids among the landscape of emerging energy solutions. In order to help monitor and manage the microgrid in both its day-to-day operations and as a data source for researchers and students, the university needed a platform to deliver on the project's unique use cases.

Solution

Having been an entroCIM power user for several years by the time the microgrid was announced, university stakeholders knew the platform could support their goals.

Data from complex technologies are visualized simply within entroCIM for day-to-day management of the microgrid’s uninterrupted power, while engineers and researchers maintain constant access to underlying data required to better understand the systems that help the microgrid serve the university and its neighbors.
