Protection Meets Performance in AIRGUARD® Armored Cable Systems

Prysmian's AIRGUARD® cable systems are designed for versatility, making them suitable for various applications across industries. Whether in offshore oil and gas drilling or the food and beverage sector, these cable solutions provide three to five times more mechanical protection than traditional metal-armored cables, even in challenging environments.

AIRGUARD's innovative polymeric-armored cable technology is a significant advancement, eliminating the need for outdated options such as interlocked, continuously corrugated and welded cables (CCW).

AIRGUARD cable and Prysmian's extensive range of terminations, splices, cable glands and tools together create a comprehensive turnkey system. This all-in-one solution positions Prysmian as the ideal choice for meeting the diverse demands of today's industries. Prysmian offers systems in low voltage, medium voltage, high voltage, instrumentation and fiber-optic cable constructions.

Low Voltage AIRGUARD Cable Systems

AIRGUARD low voltage power cables are primarily designed for heavy industrial, variable frequency drive (VFD) and offshore applications and environments. The rugged polymeric AIR BAG™ armor's exceptional durability and the chemical barrier protection package make them the ideal cables for demanding, harsh environmental conditions. Their durability, a testament to their quality, ensures that you can trust AIRGUARD even in the most challenging situations. They are rated for Class I Div. I locations, further enhancing reliability.

Low voltage AIRGUARD cables have been designed to reduce installation costs in the field while improving overall cable performance compared to Type MC and MC-HL alternatives. The proven flexibility and strippability of low voltage AIRGUARD cables instill confidence, as they have consistently demonstrated the ability to save as much as 18% in the installation cost over MC-HL.

Medium Voltage AIRGUARD® Cable Systems

AIRGUARD cables are a viable alternative to CCW cables. They offer five times better impact performance, three times the sidewall bearing pressure limit (the maximum pressure a sidewall can withstand without deforming) and a crush strength of 2500 psi MV. These features provide security and confidence in your choice of cable.

Because they can be produced in lengths that are more than twice as long as CCW cables and they can be installed without splices, AIRGUARD cables offer a versatile solution. Their excellent chemical resistance allows for installation in direct burial applications, empowering you with flexibility in project planning. This can save time and money compared to traditional tray, conduit and duct system installations.

Features and Benefits of AIRGUARD Armored Cable Systems

Strippability

No knife? No problem. The innovative design of AIRGUARD cables, coupled with strategically placed ripcords, ensures a quicker and safer stripping process than metal-clad cables. You can strip with ease, without the worry of nicking or damaging the phase conductors.

Chemical Resistance

The hydrocarbon-blocking layer and a metallic shield protect against moisture and liquid damage from hydrocarbons, solvents, acids and bases.

Mechanical Protection — Proven Durability

The AIR BAG™ layer has undergone rigorous testing and has been shown to absorb physical shocks, ensuring the cable core remains undamaged over millions of meters of installed cable.

Electrical Properties

The metallic layer in AIRGUARD cables provides electromagnetic shielding, essential for managing harmonics associated with VFD motors. The shielding safeguards the cable and reduces interference, leading to a more stable and efficient electrical system.

Flame-Retardant

AIRGUARD cables, including low voltage variants, successfully pass all industry-standard flame tests, such as IEEE 1202, FT-4, and the IEEE 383 210,000 BTU flame test. This flame-retardant design not only enhances cable safety but also minimizes the risk of fire-related damage in industrial environments, ensuring a safer workplace.

VFD

All sizes of AIRGUARD cables feature an overall shielded design with three conductors and three segmented ground segments, making them a dependable choice for VFD applications.

Direct Burial

Cables are ideal for direct burial under heavy haul roads.

Crush Rating

The cable offers a crush rating that is three to five times greater than that of MC-HL cables.
