A leading global automotive manufacturer faced mounting challenges with its legacy utility management system. Although it was a custom system, with a portfolio covering over 200 million square feet across dozens of manufacturing plants and hundreds of corporate offices worldwide, it could no longer keep up with the company’s increasingly diverse use cases and geographical footprints. The legacy system had become antiquated – unable to provide sought-after insights, limiting visibility into power usage and complicating support. As data accessibility declined, billing and invoicing processes became increasingly inefficient and error prone.

The organization needed a modern, scalable solution to unify utility data collection, increase power efficiency in their manufacturing plants, improve reporting accuracy and support both internal and external company billing across its global footprint.

The manufacturer partnered with Wesco to implement the entroCIM Central Intelligence Manager platform to address its legacy utility management system challenges. The entroCIM platform’s out-of-the-box functionality and customizable workflows expanded the manufacturer’s insights and reporting capabilities. This provided detailed data on power usage versus production output, as well as usage against site-specific limits – which were automatically generated and distributed globally.

Custom connectors were developed for existing toolsets, supplementing traditional integrations to ensure high-quality, tagged data across all locations. Virtual meters were configured to transform broad utility data into actionable insights. Additionally, power data normalized to production outputs simplified benchmarking and performance analysis site-by-site, revealing opportunities to improve efficiencies.

The platform's direct integration with the manufacturer's utility invoicing system helped automate utility billing across departments and regions to reduce manual errors and improve invoice cycle times.
